Shaykh Abdul Aziz Ahmed

Abdul Aziz AhmedAbdul Aziz Ahmed is a teacher specialising in supporting children with Additional Support Needs in mainstream schools in Scotland and has wide experience of management in education and with several voluntary organisations in various parts of the world. He has been involved in publishing, translating and editing Islamic journals and books. He has travelled widely seeking and teaching traditional Islamic knowledge.

Mufti Ismail Musa Menk

Mufti Ismail Musa MenkIsmail Musa Menk was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He was tutored by his father who is a well known scholar and Da'ee. He completed his hifz and recitation courses at an early age and learnt the Arabic and Urdu languages whilst studying Shariah under his father. At the same time he attended an Academic College in Harare where he completed his secondary secular education. He then attained a degree in Shariah from the University of Madinah and later specialised in Iftaa at Darul Uloom Kantharia in Gujarat.

He is a broad minded, motivational speaker who has won the hearts of many. He teaches at the Darul Ilm in Harare and finds the time to attend many international religious conferences, seminars etc. He is an active member of the Majlisul Ulama Zimbabwe and heads it's Iftaa Department. He is also one of the Imaams at the Arcadia Masjid in Harare. He has been invited on lecture tours to many countries. He contributes towards the Islamic content of various media networks and is an experienced social worker and counsellor. He enjoys spending time with the underprivileged. Each year he spends the month of Ramadhaan with a far off community explaining the Qur'aanic teachings.

Idris Tawfiq

Idris TawfiqIdris Tawfiq is a British Muslim writer and broadcaster who has a degree in English language and Literature from the University of Manchester and a degree in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquin as in Rome. For many years he was Head of Religious Studies in different schools in England and Wales and has much experience of teaching, both in the UK and Egypt. Before embracing Islam, Idris was a Roman Catholic priest.

Idris Tawfiq is much in demand as a speaker. His style of speaking is both simple and very gentle, touching hearts, as well as causing people to think. Idris points out that he is not an Islamic scholar, but rather has a way of explaining things about Islam in a very simple way. He tries to explain Islam to those in the West who are not Muslim. Because of his background, Idris Tawfiq is also heavily involved in the work of inter-faith dialogue. As a writer, Idris Tawfiq has written for newspapers and periodicals in the United Kingdom and has been a regular contributor and Consultant to islamonline.net and readingislam.com. He writes a column every Friday in Sawt Al-Azhar, the newspaper of Al-Azhar University and he is the author various books including Gardens of Delight: a simple introduction to Islam, Talking to Young Muslims, Talking to New Muslims, Talking to Muslims in the West, Calling Others to Islam and Talking About Other faiths.

Prof. Mohamed El-Gomati

Prof. Mohamed El-GomatiProfessor Mohamed El-Gomati obtained his BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Tripoli in 1970 and went on to study for his MSc in California and PhD from York. He became a Professor in Electronics at the University of York in 1997. His research interests are in Surface Science and Electron Optics with particular emphasis on the development of novel instrumentation for nano analysis. He is the author and co-author of more than 150 articles and patents in the above fields. Professor El-Gomati is a trustee and the deputy Chair of the Foundation for Science Technology and Civilisation (FSTC), the chair of the York Mosque Committee, is a religious advisor to a number of UK Universities and charities and speaks on the contribution of Muslims in Science and Technology.

FSTC, in association with a number of national and international organisations, have recently launched a ground breaking travelling educational exhibition, '1001 inventions: Discover the Muslim Heritage in our World'. The exhibition is currently on an international tour. This unique, non-religious, non-political global educational initiative aims to raise awareness of the Muslim contribution to modern civilisation. The exhibition which features a number of interactive exhibits is supplemented by a website; 1001inventions.com, a modern colourful book of many of the inventions and a teachers' pack that relates to experiments for the 14-16 year old secondary school students.

Dr. Ingrid Mattson

Dr. Ingrid MattsonDr. Ingrid Mattson is Professor of Islamic Studies and Director of Islamic Chaplaincy at the Macdonald Center for Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary in Hartford, CT. Dr. Mattson was born in Canada, where she studied Philosophy at the University of Waterloo, Ontario (B.A. '87). From 1987-1988 she lived in Pakistan where she worked with Afghan refugee women. In 1995 she served as advisor to the Afghan delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. During her graduate studies in Chicago, Dr. Mattson was involved with the local Muslim community, serving on the board of directors of Universal School in Bridgeview and as a member of the Interfaith Committee of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago. Dr. Mattson earned her Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the University of Chicago in 1999. Her research is focused on Islamic law and society. Dr. Mattson lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.

Mufti Muhammad al-Kawthari

Mufti Muhammad al-KawthariMufti [Abu Abdillah] Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari is a traditionally trained scholar who studied in different parts of the world. Raised under the guidance of his illustrious father, Shaykh Mawlana Adam, he memorized the entire Qur'an at the very tender age of nine. He initially studied various traditional Islamic sciences at Dar al-Uloom, Bury, UK, under many Shuyukh and thus received authorizations (ijazahs) in various books including the six major collections of Hadith. He also received Ijazah in Hadith from the late Grand Mufti of India, Shaykh Mahmud al-Hasan Gangohi. After graduating from the Dar al-Uloom, he travelled to Karachi, Pakistan, where he studied under one of the greatest living scholars, Justice (Rtd) Shaykh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani and others, and received authorizations. Later, he travelled to Damascus, Syria, where he increased in experience and knowledge by studying under the great Ulama there.

He has authored many books and is also widely known for his detailed and well-researched fiqh related articles which can be found at Darul Iftaa. Presently, he resides in Leicester, UK, where he is a teacher of various traditional Islamic sciences at Jamiah Uloom al-Qur'an, and Director and researcher at the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence (Darul Iftaa). He is a Board Member of the Al-Qalam Shari'ah Scholars Panel, established to meet the growing demand from Muslim consumers and businesses for authentic, professional, Shari'ah based guidance, and an Advisory Member of the Islamic Medical Ethics Forum (IMEF). He is also a Shari'ah Advisor for Habib Bank AG Zurich, UK - Islamic Banking department.

Shaykh Rafiq Sufi

Shaykh Rafiq SufiShaykh Rafiq Sufi (Patel) was born in England and has gained licenses to teach (Ijaazas) in many Islamic sciences including Qur'an, Jurisprudence and Traditions of the last Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam, from various scholars.

He studied and graduated in 1992 in one of the most recognized Islamic Institution in England, Darul-Uloom al-Arabiyya al-Islamiyya. As well as becoming an Alim (Scholar), he also memorised the Qur'an in different methods of recitation (Qari).

After graduation, Shaykh took a role of Imam in various Masajid within the North of England and also for a year in Leicester.

Although he is currently a teacher of Fiqh, Hadith and Arabic language, in his home town of Blackburn, his other devotion is his charity which brings 'Humanitarian Aid' to thousands of needy men, women and children from around the world.

Shaykh is also devoted to reaching out to the youth and bringing them the true message of Islam where ever they may be. He has delivered Islamic lectures in universities and mosques all over the United Kingdom, USA, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, to mention but a few.

Hamza Tzortsis

Hamza TzortsisHamza Andreas Tzortzis is an international public speaker and a writer. Hamza presents "Face the Faith" on Islam Channel and is a senior researcher and lecturer for iERA. He has debated prominent intellectuals and academics. Some of his interlocutors include the leading humanist Peter Cave, the editor of the Philosophy Now mazagine Rick Lewis and the highly acclaimed Professor Simon Blackburn. More recently Hamza debated one of the leading American atheists and secular activists Dr. Ed Buckner.

Sarah Joseph

Sarah JosephSarah Joseph is Editor of Emel, a lifestyle magazine with a Muslim focus, that was launched in 2003. Having converted to Islam at the age of sixteen, she went on to gain a BA in Religious Studies from King's College, London before conducting post-graduate research at the same institution. Shortly afterwards she became the first female editor of a major Muslim publication when she edited the groundbreaking and popular youth magazine, Trends. She has used her experience of two different cultures as the basis for much work on cross-culture toleration, lecturing on Islam both within the UK and internationally for twelve years, as well as appearing on a variety of television and radio programmes.

Joseph was the winner of the 1999-2000 Prince of Wales Chevening/King Faisal Foundation Scholarship and travelled to Saudi Arabia to pursue research in the theological perspectives of conversion, before returning to start the successful magazine Emel. She was awarded an OBE for services to 'faith dialogue' in 2004.

Saleem Kidwai

Saleem KidwaiSaleem Kidwai is the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Wales and the first Muslim to receive an Honorary Fellowship from Cardiff University. The fellowship was awarded for his outstanding achievements in promoting understanding between faiths in Wales. Saleem Kidwai is a qualified accountant and works in many different organisations in Wales, including the Association of Muslim Professionals and the Asian Cultural Association and is also an non-executive director of the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust. Mr Kidwai has also previously received an OBE.

Farooq Murad

Farooq MuradMr Farooq Murad was born in 1961 and came to the UK at the age of 15 from Pakistan. He obtained a BSc (Hons.) in Engineering and Management and now works as a management and training consultant. He lives in Leicester and has been actively involved with several of MCB's affiliates for a number of years. As well as being MCB's new Secretary General, he is a trustee at Muslim Aid, a director of the Markfield Institute of Higher Education and a director of Muslim Deaf UK.

Arwa El Taweel

Arwa El TaweelArwa El Taweel is a 20 year old Egyptian journalist and freelance writer who specialises in broadcast journalism. She is the Project Coordinator of the IIFSO (International Islamic Federation Of Student Organization) and has taken part in several projects and initiatives related to the development and reconstruction of Egypt.

She started a blog in 2005, writing about human rights and freedoms and for three years before the revolution, she was writing many articles for different newspapers and websites. During this period, Arwa had also been arrested several times and expelled from university due to her activism and oppostion to state policies.

Intissar Kherigi

Intissar KherigiIntissar Kherigi studied Law at King's College, Cambridge, then specialised in human rights at the Centre for the Study of Human Rights, London School of Economics. She has worked in the House of Lords, the United Nations in New York, and the European parliament in Brussels.

Nicola was previously Chief Executive of Equality Challenge Unit, the higher education agency which promotes equality and diversity for staff and students in higher education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Formerly a partner and head of equality at Thompsons Solicitors, the UK's largest firm of solicitors acting for the trade union and labour movement, Nicola qualified as a lawyer in England and initially worked in the City specialising in industrial relations, before qualifying in Scotland and working in Glasgow for 10 years. She has published numerous books and articles on equality and the law, and has also worked for the European Commission on equality initiatives in Europe. She was educated at the Oxford, London Metropolitan and Glasgow universities.

Dr Faisal Hanjra

Dr Faisal HanjraDr Faisal Hanjra, MBBS, is the former president of the Federation of Student Islamic Societies, FOSIS, an organisation that works with over 90,000 Muslim students across universities and colleges in the UK and Ireland. He led the organisation's response following the events of 7/7; and has worked in a consultative capacity with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as well as the Home Office and the police. He has commentated extensively both with the national and international press on issues relating to extremism, radicalisation and the Muslim community. He is the current the Assistance-Secretary General at the Muslim Council of Britain and the Vice-Chair of the Kingston Muslim Association

Dr Julian Richards

Dr Julian RichardsDr Julian Richards obtained a PhD in political violence in Pakistan in Cambridge University in 1992. He then entered the UK Ministry of Defence, where he worked for a number of years on defence and security policy, returning to academic life as a Research Fellow with Brunel University's Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies in 2006. In 2008, he jointly founded the new Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies (BUCSIS) at the University of Buckingham, and joined the Global Affairs teaching staff two years later. Dr Richards is also an Associate of the Pakistan Security Research Unit (PSRU) at Bradford University, and an active member of the European Ideas Network (EIN), with whom he has published a number of articles and delivered addresses at various conferences and events.

His current research interests focus on the security situation in Pakistan; counter-terrorism policy in the UK and Europe; processes of extremism and radicalisation among Western youth; and the security implications of contemporary globalisation.

Ali Ihsan Hammuda

Ali Ihsan HammudaAli Ihsan Hammuda is an educator and writer on Islam. He is of Palestinian origin but was brought up in the UK and is an architect by profession. Ali is known as the author of various books including "Origins of the Mosque of Cordoba" and "The End of Times", and has delivered sermons across the country. Abdelrahman Mussa

Abdelrahman MussaAbdelrahman Mussa is an emerging Manchester based speaker. He graduated from the European Institute for Humanitarian Studies with an undergraduate degree in Shariah. He has strong community connections, and has served as the Head of the Muslim Association of Britain Youth Department for 2 years and is the chair of the biggest Muslim Scouts group in the United Kingdom. He has produced an audio series about the Mongols - The Fall of Baghdad. He is a professional hypnotherapist and has had 4 articles in papers about 'impossible cases' that he was able to cure, alhamdulilah.

Salman Hasan

Salman Hasan read Law at the London School of Economics from 1997-2000, where he was also President of the Islamic Society, and later completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in 2001. He then went onto study Shari'ah at the prestigious Al-Azhar University and co-founded the Ibn Jabal Institute. Salman was formerly an Associate in the Simmons & Simmons Islamic Finance team based in Dubai. He is currently the Head of Legal at SAH Global.

Raihan Alfaradhi

Raihan AlfaradhiRaihan Alfaradhi works as a Strategy Consultant at PwC, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, where he was also Head of the Muslim Network. He has previously served on a number of executive committees including FOSIS and the LSE Students' Union to which he was awarded honorary lifetime membership. He is also Head of Strategy at CVBoosters, a social enterprise in education. Raihan graduated from the LSE in 2006, with a degree in Mathematics and Economics.

Mustafa Davies

Mustafa Davies graduated with a degree in BSc Economics in 2008 and was president of the LSE SU Islamic Society from 2006-08. He also studied usool-al-fiqh and linguistic tafseer of the Qur'an for 5 months in Cairo before entering the world of work as a Strategy Consultant at PwC. He is also a Strategy Director at the Exploring Islam Foundation (EIF).
